Overview
Ijen Crater offers a breathtaking landscape where an acidic turquoise lake shimmers amidst drifting sulfur clouds, framed by a dramatic mountain range. It is also home to the only remaining active sulfur mine in Indonesia. Here, you can witness local miners carrying 60–80 kg of sulfur rocks in bamboo baskets on their shoulders, trekking up and down the steep crater path—a sight both humbling and unforgettable.

ITINERARY
- 00.30 AM Pick up at the hotel in Banyuwangi. Then we drive 1,5 hours to Paltuding (parking area). Our guide will give you a brief about the hiking. Then, the hiking itself takes about 1,5 hours up to the crater rim. From the rim, we take you further to the other side of the crater where you can witness breathtaking landscape not only the crater but also the surrounding that makes this volcano more special.
- Enjoy this extraordinary morning on top of Ijen crater. You can also witness the hard labour sulfur miners carrying 70 kg sulfur rocks with bamboo baskets on their shoulders. We trek back to the parking area.
- 08:00 AM Then we drive back to the city of Banyuwangi.
- 09.30 AM The trip will finish as per your request (Hotel / Airport / Train station / Ferry Harbour).
Remarks:
We do not recommend our guests to go down into the crater to see the blue fire, as it is officially prohibited. Should you still choose to do so, we will require you to sign a waiver stating that this activity is undertaken at your own request and entirely at your own risk.
The health paper is required to enter or hike Ijen Crater. The health paper is included in this tour. We will stop at the clinic when we are on the way to Ijen crater.
Ijen Crater is closed every first Friday of the month due to cleaning day.
